Rejoice!

A joyful design, for an event that would expand on the aspect of true joy. Not some up and down feeling according to the seasons of our life, but a true and tested joy that’s unshaken.

From the design brief, the keywords that jumped out were: Childhood, Fun and Classic. A lot of our joyful memories are from a simpler time when we were kids, without a worry in the world and grateful for small things like crayons, bikes, climbing trees and such. So with this this in mind, the design was a tribute to vintage and old times.

This being a Catholic Organization’s event, they would key in a bit on the life of the Virgin Mary. So I began sketching her with the 60′s Retro focus. I never quite got it, but my wife saw my sketches, and she gave it a go with much more success than me. So I took her sketch, and mocked it up in Illustrator and it became the central figure of the branding.

So all in all, I think the key message of joy and happiness shines through this retro style art direction. Rejoice indeed.
