OP:TRU/TH
OP:TRU/TH is actually short for “OPERATION: TRUE NORTH.” The theme for the 2011 CFC Singles For Christ Canada National Conference that was held in Whistler B.C. The theme is taken from the Bible verse, Ephesians 10:16-18. To sum up the verse, it basically says to arm yourself with all the goodness that God has in order to defeat the enemy. So essentially, the entire event had a military influence.
Design Rationale
The direction behind the designs were to be strong, simple and straightforward.
I really wanted to avoid the typical stencil fonts associated with the army, and stuck with bold type with straight lines. I’m sure most armies in this day and age have ditched the 1960′s era stencil look. I’m sure military communications would be strong, bold and easy to read. So that’s what I went with. We transferred that same feel and look to an army emblem that was used to represent the united “army” of the organization.
I also decided upon using stock images of military, to give a sense of photojournalism. Using images of real military men and women as opposed to “angels and demons” make an unseen war a little more tangible. The look of black and white photos and graphics was used to represent not only an ancient battle (think black and white photos = old) but more so the battle between good and evil or light and darkness.
I think the hardest part of the design was finding army images without any guns. This was for a Christian organization after all.
